Your Homepage Has 8 Seconds — Make Them Count
Visitors decide whether to stay or bounce before they've read a word. Pass the glance test.

The average visitor gives your homepage about eight seconds before deciding: stay or leave.
Eight seconds isn't enough to read your story, admire your mission statement, or scroll through your gallery. It's enough for one glance. And in that glance, they're answering three questions: What do you do? Do you serve my area? How do I contact you?
The glance test
Open your homepage on your phone right now and squint. In the first screen — no scrolling — can a stranger tell:
What you do, in plain words? ("Roof replacement in Collin County" beats "Excellence in exterior solutions.")
Where you do it? The towns you serve should be visible immediately.
How to reach you? A tap-to-call phone number and one big, obvious button. Not three competing buttons. One.
If any of those three is missing or vague, you're losing jobs to competitors whose sites answer faster.
The usual failures
Stock photos of strangers. Customers want to see your trucks, your crew, your work — not a smiling model family that lives nowhere near Texas.
Clever headlines. "We bring dreams to life" could be a roofer, a wedding planner, or a poet. Say the thing: "Kitchen remodeling in Frisco & Plano."
Buried contact info. If your phone number only appears in the footer, it effectively doesn't exist on mobile.
Fix the first screen and you've fixed most of your website. Everything below it is for the visitors who already decided to stay.
And make sure the traffic you're winning actually converts — then get more of it: claim your free listing at collinlocal.com and put your business in front of Collin County customers who are ready to call.
